FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR RATING

OVERVIEW

Endorsement of the flight instructor rating gives a Commercial Pilot License holder an opportunity to teach the students and it also helps them to build some hours with earning which will also help the candidate to stand out of the competition with more instructing hours for the airline operations.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Age: Minimum of 18 years
  • License: Valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
  • Radio Telephony: Valid FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s License) – applicable in India
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Hours: Minimum of 100 hours

    Note: Should have 20 PIC hours in last 18 months immediately preceding the date of application.

THEORY EXAMINATIONS

  • Techniques of applied Instruction
  • Assessment of student performance in those subjects in which ground instruction is given.
  • The learning processes
  • Elements of effective teaching
  • Student evaluation and testing, training philosophies
  • Training program development
  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom instructional training
  • Use of training aids, including flight simulator training devices as appropriate
  • Analysis and correction of student errors
  • Human performance relevant to flight instruction including principles of threat and error management
  • Hazards involved in simulating system failure and malfunctions in the aircraft.

INSTRUCTOR RATING SKILL TEST

He shall have demonstrated his competency as a Flight Instructor by performing procedures and manoeuvres prescribed in the syllabus by day and by night to the satisfaction of an approved Examiner within a period of six months immediately preceding the date of application.

Special Note: The hours mentioned above adhere to the standards and guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). However, these hours may vary according to the requirements of the country selected by candidates for their pilot flight training.
